Dance Career
American Ballerina (TM) Alice Alyse is an honors society academic and top ballet award graduate of New World School for the Arts in Miami, Florida. A full scholarship student of the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City and Hartford Ballet. At fifteen, she rehearsed with the Hartford Ballet and performed with members of the Joffrey Ballet under Gerald Arpino. She performed principal roles with Ballet Theatre of Miami under the direction of Tony Catanzaro. In the same year, Ms. Alyse was awarded 1st place in classical ballet for both the National Young Arts Foundation and the National Arts and Letters Foundation competitions. She received the Outstanding Performance Award from the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria.
At the age of sixteen, Ms. Alyse was invited to join the Miami City Ballet Company by the legendary Artistic Director Edward Villella. Ms. Alyse performed principal roles, at the age of seventeen, with the Miami City Ballet and then under International Artistic Director Robert de Warren at Sarasota Ballet of Florida. These works included Balanchine's 1st Movement couple in Four Temperaments, Lilac Fairy in Robert de Warren's Sleeping Beauty, The Pianist in Flemming Flint's The Lesson and the ballet Bolero created especially for Ms. Alyse by Robert De Warren.
At nineteen and for the rest of her classical ballet career, Ms. Alyse danced principal roles with the San Francisco Ballet under the direction of world renown Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson. At San Francisco Ballet she excelled in lead prominent ballerina roles such as Myrtha in Giselle, Itallian Ballerina in Antony Tudor’s Gala Performance, Bianca in Lar Lubovitch’s Othello, The Governess in Sir Kenneth MacMillan's The Invitation and the Diana Adams role in George Balanchine’s Liebeslieder Waltzer. She later joined Broadway and performed over 300 performances of the three time Tony award winning Broadway Show "Movin’ Out" music by Billy Joel and choreographed by Twyla Tharp.
She has performed throughout the world on countless stages such as the Balanchine Celebration at the Kennedy Center – D.C., Opéra de Paris- Garnier, Mariinsky Theatre- Russia, Reykjavik City Theatre- Iceland, Edinburgh Playhouse- Scotland, Tivoli Gardens Theatre- Denmark, War Memorial Opera House- SF, Pantages Theatre- LA, Hollywood Bowl- LA, City Center- NYC and Lincoln Center- NYC. She has been in world premier ballets by Mark Morris, James Kudelka and Robert DeWarren; and her vast repertoire works include: Alvin Alley, Jerome Robbins, William Forsythe, Mark Morris, Flemming Flint, Paul Taylor, Natalia Makarova, Robert de Warren, Helgi Tomasson, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Hans van Manen, Lew Christensen, David Bintley, Peter Darrell and George Balanchine.
